I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite 2-in-1 laptop, which came without an internal CD/DVD drive. While I love the portability of my new laptop, I still needed the ability to read and write CDs and DVDs. I did some research to see if there was even such a thing as an external dvd drive, and came across this slim, lightweight portable drive, the Novapolt USB 3.0 External DVD and CD RW/Drive.
Of course, as soon as I accepted the offer to review this product, my new computer decided that it wanted to have memory_errors and kept going to the BSOD. This meant that I spent an hour or so on the phone with the tech guy trying to figure out the problem. It turned out to be a hardware issue which required me to send it to their repair depot, so, I had to commandeer my sons laptop to give this a test drive.
It is powered by a USB cable that slots right into the back of the product, when not in use. This is nice for those times I may want to toss it in my computer bag to work somewhere else, no wires to tangle as the cord fits snug into the slot.
It was so easy to get it up and running. It took virtually no time, just plug the usb in and BAM! It was ready to go! It seems to run smoothly, with no skipping of my favorite series of all time (Firefly)!
The portable player is lightweight but sturdy feeling. It is good looking, with a brushed metal look and is compact and will travel well. I am really pleased with this product so far and for the price, it can’t be beat.
Once my computer gets back, I’ll be trying out the re-writable capabilities of this product.
Do you have an external dvd/cd player? Can you write to disc with it? Let me know in the comments.
